Christ, you did smoke a shit load.
I think I might have done the same but I don't remember. Then I just stopped one day about three decades ago.

Burden of proof is the obligation on somebody presenting a claim to provide evidence to support its truth (a warrant). Once evidence has been presented, it is up to any opposing "side" to show the evidence presented is not adequate. If claims were accepted without warrants, then every claim could simultaneously be claimed to be true.

History isn't written by the victors. It's written by the people with the time machines.

Yes, it's bad, bad, bad.

Back then Big Tobacco had their smart-arse lawyers actually contending in court there was no proven correlation between smoking and cancer.

Remember Julie London singing the Marlboro jingle on late night radio? I mean while you're asleep.

I had this gorgeous big valve-driven bakelight radio when I was a kid. I just left it on all night. Double J started when I was 15, 3AR. Chris Winter 'The Album Show,' late. Arch McCurdie, Ian Neil, Jazz...

Sorry, ahem! Back to Christians..!

Oh you are awful.

Are there any reliable stats about how many Christians became lion tucker?

Funny thing about the blathering in tongues stunt. I can't recall if Jesus himself was into this. Any Biblical scholars out there that can help me out on this?

Almost none, despite it being a "well known fact". There are, as far as I know no recorded instanced in roman records of christians being thrown to lions, it was all made up in the middle ages or later to suit the christian idea of being an oppressed religion. It may have been made up much later than that, I would have to do some extensive research to get a better idea of when the christians thrown to lions meme became widely used.

Have a read of "The Myth of Persecution" by Candida Moss, a scholar of the early church. It is an analysis of the martyrs of the early church and discussion of the propagation of the persecution mind set that still is evident with christians.
It is annotated and referenced so it is also a good jump off point into the subject.
I found it fascinating and have followed a few of the references further.
