Default Journal of Negative Results

Could a scientific journal exist that published only negative results or falsifications of previous apparently confirmed hypotheses?

It actually sounds like a good idea. I think journals do print falsification instances in whatever field they are for but I don't know of one that just does that.

Burden of proof is the obligation on somebody presenting a claim to provide evidence to support its truth (a warrant). Once evidence has been presented, it is up to any opposing "side" to show the evidence presented is not adequate. If claims were accepted without warrants, then every claim could simultaneously be claimed to be true.

History isn't written by the victors. It's written by the people with the time machines.

I've been agitating for this on and off for years. Ben Goldacre has been working on something like it, I think.

I've been interacting with a few scientists on twatter who are making their negative results public. I think some serious thought's being given to a journal.

It's a cracking idea, not least because knowing this sort of thing can guide future research much better.

My question as to whether it could exist also wonders about whether there would be a market for it, or sponsorship. It'd need funding, and it'd need experts in a wide range of fields.

I wonder whether the restriction is financial?

Mostly institutional, is my understanding. Cultural, to put it another way. Associated with the "publish or perish" dysfunction embedded within academia.
