Default The next revolution of super weapons

Gunpowder weaponry was first invented that led to massive casualties on an unimaginable scale during the early great wars.

Nuclear weaponry was the second revolution of weapons of mass-destruction.

Consider this speculation: ...(forgive and excuse me for not citing some interesting sources of information that I had once read recently, and I cannot find and quote them here, so I'm trying my best to recall from memory)...

Artificial intelligence may take over in human industry and labour in the next 50 years, leaving us humans freer and less duty-bound. There were cases of robots assaulting a human factory worker, somewhere in Europe. AI may be able to self-organise, emerge and develop further on their own, once the earliest AI robots were programmed successfully and built to reproduce on their own. We also have 3D printers that allow humans to manufacture guns and human bodies if possible. AI may develop to an extent, unless we inject moral intelligence into them enough to make them capable of judging what is altruistically reasonable vs avoidably cruel so as not to harm humans - such that the robots may annihilate us all.

We've heard of cases of drones attacking civilians during the ISIS regime.

So autonomous weaponry will be the third revolution that will see the apocalypse of humankind very easily soon, unless we try to find alternatives to it, or at worst, say no to the existence of AI and autonomous weaponry in our world.

Wow. While I cannot understand the speech fully without captions, I must say it is very absorbing to see the railgun missile at work!

Of course rail guns have been around for ages (i built one that fired nails as a kid) and putting one this size that works together is a real achievement, the bit i find mind-blowing is the targetting. These things are designed to target enemies >100 nautical miles away. And they aren't targetting ships, they are specifically targeting the magazine on a ship at sea and firing from another ship at sea. Now that's a remarkable thing.

Bit like throwing a tennis ball from here with the intent of hitting the third locker from the right in the male changing room at the local swimming pool.

Just more throwing rocks, using better technology but we have been doing that ever since some guy a long time ago made a slingshot for throwing his rocks instead of using his hand.

I tend to think of next gen weapons systems being a version of nano-tech.
