I read that, it's depressing. They are doing something environmentally questionable and they can't even be bothered to get the bits right they have full control over! I mean it really wants to make you trust them over the rest of their claims right? The other thing is of course this is exactly the behaviour Trump is encouraging with his winding back of the environmental protections. It was bad enough before he got in, it's going to turn into a free for all now!

Self-sufficiency in oil is the holy grail of US politics, so fracking if not popular, is at least a "necessary evil" no matter what political flavour inhabits the White House or Congress. The US had become utterly dependent on oil, because cars, and cars dictate city planning etc. Not saying it's right of course. Far from it. So the US has painted itself into a corner, and will have to spend big to virtually re-design the whole country.

The "urban villages" in Europe where people work and sleep in the same place, or at least in the same city block, slashes both private and public transportation costs. Let's hope the idea catches on in the US. But I think the US is even more religious about cars than about god, and they are the most religious developed nation on the planet. because "freedom", I guess.
