The Atheist Foundation of Australia (AFA) is excited to announce that evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, and Ben Goldacre, best-selling author of Bad Science and Bad Pharma, will speak at the 2018 Global Atheist Convention, Reason to Hope.

“We are delighted Richard and Ben will join us at the convention” said Kylie Sturgess, President of the AFA. “Their views on ‘alternative facts’ will fit right in with the great mix of science, social issues and comedy we have planned for Reason to Hope.”

Richard Dawkins and Ben Goldacre will join a range of world-class speakers and entertainers at Reason to Hope, including

  • Sir Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses
  • Robin Ince, science comedian
  • Jane Caro, social commentator
  • Greta Christina, atheist blogger and author
  • Jason Ball, 2017 Young Australian of the Year for Victoria
  • Peter FitzSimons, author and columnist
  • Tracey Spicer, journalist and media presenter
  • Clementine Ford, writer and author
  • Lawrence Leung, comedian

The last two Global Atheist Conventions (The Rise of Atheism in 2010 and A Celebration of Reason in 2012) attracted thousands of people from Melbourne, Australia and around the world to an eclectic mix of speakers, comedy acts, panel debates, book signings and a gala dinner.

Reason to Hope, to be held in Melbourne from 9 – 11 February 2018, will inform, entertain and challenge attendees’ thoughts about atheism and the role of the godless in the current political and social climate. The Convention is particuarly timely, given the rise of the non-religious in Australia – now at 30.1% of the population, easily overtaking the previously-highest response “Catholic” for the first time in Census history.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Global Atheist Convention, via the Convention website at atheistconvention.org.au.
