Speaking in tongues weirded me out when a whole room did it... reminds me of John Safran vs Religion.

Spending time with them is scary, mostly because you are in a room with irrational people.

Surely no worse than me finding myself in a techno music club with a lot of people much younger than myself. So loud it was painful, could feel my eardrums bouncing, could not hear anything else, fire alarms would have gone unnoticed.

People in groups act 'irrationally'. Scare quotes around 'irrational' because what humans do in groups where some single emotive act is a focus for the group is likely not irrational so much as it is simply emotional and group oriented.

Often there is a single person in a group that one or two may follow 'religiously' and when this causes a follow on effect and the bulk of the group follow the nucleus, then the groups actions is representative of the nucleolus. In these cases - in which I have been both nucleolus and follower - if the nucleolus is irrational in behaviour, then so is the group. It may not be an emotional and group oriented activity.

I would rather be at a nightclub than in a church. I would feel safer there, and less uncomfortable.

I have attended a night club once, not something that I intend to repeat. It was boring and a waste of my time, more so even than pointless computer games. I would rather be at church where I could at least engage in some manner of discourse, even if not entirely rational. I do try not to tread on toes when I attend.

Yea, first night club experience is usually pretty daunting. Give me a nice pub any day.

I suppose I have been to more clubs than churches though, so it comes down to comfort zone.
